Basanets Petro Oleksiyovych (1926 - 2007)
A Ukrainian painter and graphic artist.
Author of portraits, landscapes and genre paintings. In his work he gave preference to the national subjects and plots in painting connected with the national traditions.
Born in the village of Burimka, Chernighiv region. He graduated from Odessa Art School (1952), and Kyiv Art Institute (1958) where he studied under the tutelage of K. Trokhymenko, V. Puzyrkov, and V. Kostetskyi. He had been teaching at Kyiv Art Institute since 1961, and became its professor in 1981. The People's Artist of the USSR since 1990. Lived and worked in Kyiv.
